Denver Dems County Assembly Recap

by: Dan Willis

Big news: Romanoff 65%, Bennet 35%. Okay maybe not big news, it was roughly the expected outcome.

Lots of details after the jump

Dan Willis :: Denver Dems County Assembly Recap
Once we got past the check-on process, the day went rather smoothly. The initial problem was a massive slow-down, and then failure of the printers to print the credentials badges in a timely manner. We started the assembly quite late so we could get everyone checked in first.

For the record I advocated pre-printing all of the badges, so the only thing the printers on site would be needed for is making changes based on Credential rulings, and for seating alternates. I was over-ruled.

But the turnout was amazing. We always say we never have trouble seating all of the alternates. This was not the case this time. When the day ended there were still many alternates never seated because most of the delegates actually showed up. We will need to rethink the old adage about being an alternate is nearly a guarantee of becoming a delegate. I have advocated for a few years now that it is not necessary to elect one alternate for every delegate, but I seem to be in a distinct minority on that one.

I did not get to hear most of the speeches, so I am hoping someone else who was there can tell what they heard and did or didn't liked.

The platform was the easiest it has ever been. Since we were running so late, a motion to pass the platform as submitted by the platform committee in its entirety was passed. I think was appropriate because the Platform Committee had already put months of work into it.

I don't have all of the details of how the SD and HD assemblies went, but I know most bottom line results:

SD32 - Romer was uncontested
SD33 - Johnston was uncontested
SD34 - Lucia Guzman was nominated. Her opponent, Joel Judd is petitioning on and did not put his name into nomination.

HD1 - Labuda was uncontested
HD2 - Ferrandino was uncontested
HD3 - Kagan was uncontested
HD4 - Dan Pabon was nominated. Jennifer Coken and Amber Tafoya each made enough to still petition if they choose to.
HD5 - Mark Thrun (53%) and Crisanta Duran (47%) both made the ballot. Jose Silva and JJ Swiontek each had less than 1% so they are not eligible to petition.
HD6 - Court was uncontested
HD7 - I have not been told results for this one yet, but only Angela Williams and Jon Goldin-Debois were using the assembly process, so it is a good chance they both made it. 3 others are petitioning
HD8 - McCann was uncontested
HD9 - Miklosi was uncontested

Thanks Dan
I had to leave right after voting for HD4 and appreciate you posting outcome.  If you find out final numbers for HD4 or HD7, it would be great if you could post them.

HD4
I only heard the HD4 numbers.

I think Pabon got 51% and Coken and Tafoya tied.

Is that right Dan?

HD7 results
Jon Goldin-Dubois received 97 votes.
Angela Williams received   97 votes.
6 votes were disqualified.

Apparently the rules don't cover what happens when candidates tie, so the announcement was that the rules committee would have to consult the relevant statute to determine who receives the top line on the primary ballot.

Actually rules do cover it and it was in their instructions
They settle it with a coin toss or similar selection by chance. I personally like using a deck of cards: high card wins - I suck at flipping coins gracefully.

I would guess that was rectified since I have not heard of outstanding paperwork being an issue.

Yes it was indeed rectified.
A coin toss was done, Angela Williams got top line and Jon Goldin-Dubois will be second.

They will be followed by the petitioning candidates in the order they submit their petitions to the Secretary of State.

Thanks!
I was surprised at the announcement that the rules didn't cover a tie--it struck me as hard to believe that a tie couldn't be foreseen.  However, that was the announcement that was made in the HD7 assembly.

Thanks for the update!
